All relatives hoping to immigrate to Canada within the Family Class are required to have a sponsor which meets certain criteria for sponsorship. Along with criteria for the sponsor, there is also a list of criteria for the individual being sponsored.
Who can be sponsored?
Spousal/Common-Law/Conjugal Partner Sponsorship
Are you married, living common-law, or in a conjugal relationship and would like to sponsor your better half to become a permanent resident of Canada? Do you sponsor from within or from outside Canada? Is marriage your guarantee to Permanent Residence? What are the various processing times? We are here to solve and resolve your sponsorship needs.
Whether you are married, living common-law, or in conjugal relationship, you may be able to sponsor your partner.
Some, but not all, criteria for the sponsor include:
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent resident, or an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- Be at least 18 years old
- Do not receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability
Should the above criteria be met by the sponsor, does it mean that the application is guaranteed to go through? No, all applications are determined on a case by case and are assessed individually.
Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship
Are you hoping to sponsor your parents or grandparents to Canada? Can they visit you in Canada before their permanent residence application is finalized? What is the current processing time?
Some, but not all, criteria the sponsor must meet to sponsor a parent or grandparent to Canada include:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Live in Canada
- Be a Canadian citizen, Permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- Meet the certain minimum necessary income requirements.

Child/Other Sponsorship
Do you have a dependant child you would like to sponsor? Is your own child the only dependant person you can sponsor? Is this the category a niece, nephew, aunt, or uncle would fall in?
Sponsorship of children is permitted to some extent in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. With this very complex area of sponsorship, it is critical to understand the law on who can be sponsored.
Special Note:
The province of Quebec has additional sponsorship requirements and immigration rules. Please know that Tipi Immigration Group Inc. does not handle any Quebec-related immigration streams.
