As of November 10, 2016, all dual citizens travelling back to Canada must present their valid Canadian passport upon re-entry into the country. This new law applies even when transiting through Canada. If your other country of nationality has the same requirement (to use their passport when entering and exiting that country), we advise that you carry both passports when travelling.
One exception to this law is if you are a U.S. citizen. Dual Canadian-U.S. citizens are exempt from this law, you do not need to carry a valid Canadian passport; however, proper identification is still mandatory.
